  8.      UniQWK is an off-line reader compatible with QWK message packets,
  9. developed for Windows 3.1.  With UniQWK, you can process messages
  10. quickly, using the traditional facilities of DOS readers, as well as
  11. the intrinsic advantages of Windows.
  12.  
  13.      UniQWK Version 3.3 allows you to incorporate some of Windows
  14. 3.1's multimedia facilities into your messages.  Using UniQWK, you can
  15. send messages containing sounds that you have recorded or .WAV or .MID
  16. files.

  18.      This revolutionary novelty joins other important features, such
  19. as:
  20.      ▀ File Attachment for BBSs with Cam-Mail or Tomcat doors.
  21.      ▀ Automatically sending UU/XXencoded messages.
  22.      ▀ Decoding messages with XX/UUencoded files.
  23.      ▀ Spell check for English.
  24.      ▀ Decoding messages with XXCODED files.
  25.      ▀ Automatic message selection based on keywords.
  26.      ▀ Returning to package processing in case of involuntary
  27.         interruptions.
  28.      ▀ Automatic conversion of accented characters, letting you
  29.         correctly read messages in both CP860 and CP850. UniQWK also
  30.         supports CP473 (US default) or ANSI (Windows default).  Code
  31.         page 850 was used to accent this text.
  32.      ▀ Messages with ANSI commands are supported without animation.
  33.      ▀ Incorporates internal ZIP/UNZIP. In this mode, UniQWK can be
  34.         run under WIN/OS2 without problems.

  108.      all of the above-mentioned files.

  113.      UniQWK is not freeware. You may test it for one month.  If you
  114. decide to continue using it after the evaluation period, you must
  115. register your copy.

  117.      You can obtain a usage license for UniQWK by paying only US
  118. $30.00 (thirty US. dollars), or the equivalent in Brazilian currency.

  121.      The shareware version is completely operational. The only
  122. restrictions are that you only have two taglines advertising UniQWK
  123. and an occasional screen reminding you to register your copy.

  125.      You only pay for the license once.  Besides getting rid of our
  126. registration reminder, you can then change taglines.  Licensed users
  127. will receive ALL future version at no additional charge, as well as
  128. have technical support whenever needed.

  130.      Registering UniQWK version 3.3 will you 30-days use of Inside BBS
  131. as an associate user, as of the date UniKEY Informática Ltda receives
  132. your registration.

  134.      Our best incentive for continuing to develop this program is your
  135. registration.  Knowing that people like and use a program is always
  136. good, but it is even better if you receive some financial compensation
  137. for your work.  Regardless of being registered or not, all comments
  138. and suggestions are welcomed.

  140.      Sellers and distributors of public domain software CANNOT CHARGE
  141. for the use of UniQWK, though they may include UniQWK on a diskette or
  142. any other media and, subsequently, charge a fee for the use or
  143. distribution of the media used.  Whoever buys that diskette should be
  144. informed that the price is for the diskette and not for registering
  145. UniQWK.

  147.      BBS system operators (SYSOPS) may make UniQWK available for their
  148. users as long as they meet the conditions described in the preceding
  149. paragraph, or rather, the BBS may charge an access fee, but cannot
  150. charge specifically for downloading UniQWK.  SYSOPS making UniQWK
  151. available for "free downloading" can receive a free registration.

  155. HOW TO INSTALL:
  156. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  157.  
  158.      As of version 3.0, we have included an auxiliary installation
  159. program in the packet.  Proceed as follows to install UniQWK using
  160. this program:
  161.  
  162.           ▀  Unpack the file in any directory, for example, C:\ZZ.
  163.           ▀  Enter Windows and run the program C:\ZZ\SETUP.EXE.
  164.           ▀  Follow the instructions on the screen.
  165.  
  166.      NOTE: If you want to set only the dictionary, use option /D at
  167.      setup command line.
  168.  
  169.      If you use an external unpacker, or you want to install the
  170. program manually, proceed as follows:
  171.  
  172.           ▀  Unpack the file in any directory, for example,
  173.               C:\UNIQWK
  174.           ▀  Copy MRPACK.PIR and MRUNPACK.PIF to your Windows
  175.               directory.
  176.           ▀  The first time you run UniQWK, it will make a working
  177.               directory under the directory in which you have placed
  178.               the program.  Ex:  C:\UNIQWK\UNIWRK.  Leave this
  179.               directory empty; never use it for any reason.  UniQWK
  180.               will delete its contents.
  181.           ▀  Using the Program Manager, install UniQWK in the group
  182.               of your choice.
  183.           ▀  Run UniQWK.
  184.  
  185.      You MUST complete the configuration menus before opening any .QWK
  186.      packet in order to:
  187.  
  188.           ▀  Select default directories for uploads, downloads,
  189.               saving files and messages, etc.
  190.           ▀  Select reply options, such as editor, margins, "quote"
  191.               character, code page, etc.
  192.           ▀  Choose other assorted options.
  193.  
  194.     If you use an external compressor (Zip, ARJ, etc.), take note of the
  195.     following:
  196.  
  197.           ▀  Using the PIF Editor, confirm that the .PIF files are
  198.                correct for your system;
  199.           ▀  Confirm that your compression/extraction programs are
  200.                correctly selected;
  201.           ▀  Confirm that these programs can be accessed using your
  202.                current PATH.  For more information about .PIFs, see
  203.                "Help."
  204.           ▀  Copy MRPACK.PIF and MRUNPACK.PIF to your Windows
  205.                directory.

  207.      After installation, open any .QWK packet (or the example file)
  208. using the File menu and test to see if any problems occur while
  209. reading your packet.
  210.  
  211.      Remember that UniQWK does not need the index files (.NDX).  You
  212. may therefore configure your BBS door to not send them, saving
  213. transmission time.
  214.  
  215.      We emphatically recommend that you use the internal ZIP/UNZIP.
  216. UniQWK supports files packed with PKZIP version 2.0.  There is,
  217. therefore, no reason to use an external packer, since the ZIP format
  218. is supported by virtually all BBSs.

  221. Upgrading from Version 2.1 or 3.0
  222. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  224.      If upgrading from Version 2.0 or 3.0, you need only exchange the
  225. old UNIQWK.EXE, UNIQWK.HLP and BCWTERM.FON files for the new ones.

  228. Upgrading from Version 1.x or 2.0

  231.      In this case, we recommend reinstalling the program.

  237.      The registration codes were changed as of Version 3.0, and you
  238. should receive your new code through the mail.  If you do not, please
  239. contact us.  Your registration is still in effect.

  242. Licensing Agreement:

  245.      READ THE FOLLOWING LICENSING AGREEMENT CAREFULLY.  YOU MUST
  246. REGISTER USE OF THE SOFTWARE ACCOMPANYING THIS AGREEMENT (THE
  247. "SOFTWARE") BY FILLING OUT AND SENDING THE FORM IN THE ANNEXED FILE
  248. ("sendme.txt") TO UniKEY INFORM╡TICA ("UniKEY").
  249.      1.   CONCESSION OF LICENSE. UniKEY grants you, as an individual
  250.        user, non-exclusive right to use a copy of this version of the
  251.        SOFTWARE code associated with this license for personal your
  252.        in your computer. This license to use the SOFTWARE is
  253.        conditional to fulfilling the terms of this license. You have
  254.        the right to evaluate the SOFTWARE, free of charge, for a
  255.        period of thirty days. Use after that period is conditional
  256.        upon payment of the license, as specified in this file. You
  257.        agree to copy the SOFTWARE only for your use, and according to
  258.        this license.
  259.      2.   COPYRIGHT. The SOFTWARE is protected by Brazilian copyright
  260.        laws and international treaty. You may not transfer any
  261.        intellectual property rights of the SOFTWARE.  The all rights
  262.        to UniQWK remain the property of UniKEY or its suppliers, and
  263.        you are acquire no rights to the SOFTWARE other than those
  264.        expressly established in this license. You also agree that all
  265.        copies of SOFTWARE must contain all proprietary notes about or
  266.        accompanying the SOFTWARE.
  267.      3.   REVERSE ENGINEERING. You agree that you will not attempt to
  268.        decompile, modify, translate or disassemble the SOFTWARE,
  269.        either as a whole or in part.
  270.      4.   LIMITED GUARANTEE.  UniKEY guarantees that the SOFTWARE will
  271.        perform according to the description furnished (written or in
  272.        the UNIQWK.HLP file) for a period of 90 days, beginning at the
  273.        date of purchase.  All guarantees implied in the SOFTWARE are
  274.        limited to 90 days.
  275.      5.   ALTERNATE GUARANTEE. If this SOFTWARE does not meet the
  276.        specifications stated in Item 5 (LIMITED GUARANTEE), UniKEY
  277.        may either:
  278.        -  Correct the error.
  279.        -  Assist you in using the program in order to avoid the error.
  280.           The SOFTWARE guarantee is considered null if the error
  281.           arises from operational error, hardware failure, or improper
  282.           use of the SOFTWARE. In case of an exchange of the SOFTWARE,
  283.           the guarantee will be valid only for the remainder of the
  284.           original period.
  285.      6.   NO OTHER GUARANTEES.  UniKEY does not guarantee the SOFTWARE
  286.        to be totally free of errors, except those expressly stated in
  287.        the limited guarantee (Item 4). This includes, but is not
  288.        limited to, guarantees of marketability, use for a particular
  289.        purpose or damages provoked by a third party.  Certain areas
  290.        do not allow limited guarantees.  Thus, the limitations
  291.        described above may not apply to you.  This guarantee may give
  292.        you other rights that vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
  293.      7.   SEVERABILITY. In the case that some clause of this license
  294.        loses validity, both parts agree that all remaining clauses
  295.        remain valid.
  296.      8.   RESPONSIBILITY. UniKEY assumes no responsibility for damages
  297.        from improper use of SOFTWARE.  In no case may UniKEY or its
  298.        distributors be held responsible for direct or indirect
  299.        damages arising from the use for this program, even if UniKEY
  300.        has warned of the possibility of these damages.  In no case of
  301.        complaints, both those foreseen in this contract and those
  302.        stipulated by law, will UniKEY's responsibility exceed the
  303.        value paid for this license, if anything has been paid.
  304.      9. LEGAL FORUM. This agreement is administered under the norms
  305.        prescribed in Brazilian law.  The United Nations Convention on
  306.        Contracts for the International Sales of Goods has no validity
  307.        for this license.
  308.      10.  AGREEMENT.  This legal agreement between you and UniKEY
  309.        shall prevail over any later agreement or understanding, oral
  310.        or written, related to the object of this license.
